Witness Orangutans take refuge at Semenggoh Wildlife Centre

In 1975, Semenggoh Wildlife Centre opened its doors to house endangered and orphaned Orangutans. The primates are native to the area, and here at the Wildlife Centre, they are offered a safe haven when needed. Visit during the morning feeding at 9 AM to have the best chance of catching a glimpse of these animals. Watching them in their semi-wild habitat is an experience that will give you chills!

Make treasured memories at Bako National Park

Taking the crown for the oldest national park in Sarawak, Bako National Park is a great way to see animals and take in the sights from a surprisingly wide array of landscapes. The park is also one of the smallest national parks in Sarawak which makes it the perfect day trip. You will be able to see so much in a short period of time, so there’s a ton of bang for your buck. Take a boat ride to the entrance then choose your own adventure! Maybe you’re tracking down Proboscis Monkeys for a photo or spending the day hiking, either way, you won’t be disappointed.

Travel back in time with a visit to Sarawak Cultural Village

You won’t need a time machine for this stop, but you will need to go just about 35 minutes outside the city center to get to Sarawak Cultural Village. Here, you get the opportunity to immerse yourself in the traditional way of life. You can marvel at the longhouse replicas just like the ones that were once used to house Iban tribes or you can take classes in beadwork to experience first-hand some of the talent that exists in these communities.

If you’re a fan of panoramic views, hike to the top of Mount Santubong

Since Mount Santubong is one of the highest mountains in the area, it has incredible sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, ocean, and the city below. If you thought the city was beautiful when you were in it, wait until you see it from up above. It doesn’t take long to get to the base of this mountain from Kuching, only about 30 minutes. However, the hike to the top isn’t quite as much of a breeze, taking most hikers about 4 hours to summit. Trust us, it’s worth it!
